New Groups

Philosophy and History of Science...meetings on the fourth Tuesday pm monthly co-ordinated by Alan and Sue Craw

German Improvers...on second & fourth Tuesdays monthly co-ordinated by Keith Fawthrop

German beginners has restarted on Tuesdays, weekly, also led by Keith.

Lois Gent intends to start a second German Intermediate group on the first & third Monday of the month.

Art History/Art Appreciation...Lydia Peters is about to start this new group in January.

Classical Music A new music group is now established, led by Michael Fenton, meeting on the fourth Friday of each month.


Holidays

In March 2009 the thirteenth consecutive Spring Walking Holiday will be taken at the HF house in Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. All organised by members of the Chesterfield U3A.


In September, 26 members had a splendid walking holidayin Bonassola, Italy.(picture on the left) We were walking in the Cinque Terre region which is a National Park in the coastal area of Liguria where villages cling to the coast and the hills. The area is beautiful with a coastal footpath,the Via dell’Amore, and a backdrop of mountains.We were lucky to finish the week with a grand finale of fireworks becausethe village celebrated a Saints Day.Plans are being made to go on another HF walking holiday abroad in 2009.



Travel Group

An overnight visit to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular,Tuesday/Wednesday 18th and 19th November.

A trip to Bridgemere Garden Centre for a Christmas lunch etc. on Tuesday 2nd December

A day trip to the Royal Armouries Leeds on Thursday 26th February 2009


Classical Music

A coach trip to Birmingham in March 2009 where the CBSO will play Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 and Schubert's Symphony No. 9. The solo pianist Surgey Kusnetsov, conductor Walter Weller.
